Great Brickhill Our History

Setting out what we want to leave for those who follow us…

Heritage Christmas Family Workshop

How many times must we hear: “I wish I had asked my grandparents about life at home when they were kids”. Well, many youngsters will get the chance this Christmas, and even better have something to do with the information!

The interest in the GB Heritage Project is encouraging. We have a number of substantial articles about the village, its life and significant events here over the years. The History Time Line looks good with many interesting articles. We would now like to get some more contributions from the Great Brickhill News readers about local families who have lived in the village for an extended time. Maybe you have family or friends who have lived here and can help? This workshop sets out what we need.

The basic principles of the site mean that we want to record facts about village life without contravening any data protection issues. Consequently, when you tell us about your family and friends, we are more interested in hearing about those who have contributed to our heritage, more than 50 years or so ago, than the present. Having said that, the recent Jubilee event clearly deserves a place because it will in time form its own place in that heritage. We will accommodate articles about families in a members subscription section in Phase 2. This is to give them a measure of protection.

If you would like to take part in this Xmas Family Workshop, please have a look at this worksheet and see how far you can get with your family records. Email it to the site and we will liaise with you regarding the content, and go from there. We may not publish everything we receive. We will only publish material when we have confirmed the content with you.

Heritage Christmas Family Workshop Worksheet

Please remember that we are principally interested in people who have lived in or near the village, or know local families. Please work though these questions and add as much information, anecdotes, photos and stories as you can:

  1. Who are you? Give your name and contact details (email and mobile number preferred) so that we can communicate with you! We won’t publish your details.
  2. Please write down your story, adding how your family or friends came to be in Great Brickhill or in a neighbouring village. Give details of dates and addresses. Include any references to the village that you can. If it is relevant, explain what your relatives did, their interests, occupation and so on.
  3. Look out any photos or family memorabilia that can be photographed and add them to your story. Please add names and dates to images!
  4. Please email us your worksheet. If this is going to take a while, then email us to say that you preparing it as soon as you are able.

With Christmas around the corner and some family reunions to look forward to, this might be just the moment to ask your family about life in the village as they recall it. We hope so and look forward to hearing all about it, photos and all!

Thank you for your attention and Happy Christmas to all the family!
