Great Brickhill Our History

Setting out what we want to leave for those who follow us…

My Slideshow — Explore the Photograph Collection

Explore Great Brickhill’s photograph collection through the people, places, buildings and subjects that interest you.

My Slideshow brings together matching photographs from the Heritage Project collection and presents them as an enjoyable, focused slideshow.

Discover the Collection in Your Own Way

The Great Brickhill Heritage Project has preserved around 1,750 photographs of village people, families, buildings, streets, events and everyday life.

My Slideshow provides a different way to explore that growing collection. Instead of following one prepared sequence, members can use the available subjects and keywords to bring together photographs connected with their own interests.

The resulting selection can be enjoyed on a computer, tablet, phone or compatible television arrangement.

My Slideshow

Choose subjects that interest you and view the matching photographs as a slideshow.

This is a member facility. Great Brickhill residents can join the Heritage Project free.

Great Brickhill Yesterday

Our Photo Tours

The current Autumn Virtual Tour is an experimental example of how these tours may develop.

What Is My Slideshow?

My Slideshow is a member facility that creates a viewing selection from the photographs held by the Great Brickhill Heritage Project.

You choose from the subjects and keywords available within the photograph record. My Slideshow then finds the matching photographs and brings them together for viewing.

It does not alter, move or edit the original photographs. It simply provides another way to discover and enjoy material already preserved within the collection.

My Slideshow does not create a separate copy of the collection. It presents matching photographs while the underlying Heritage Project record remains unchanged.

Choose What Interests You

Depending on the information and keywords recorded against each photograph, you may be able to bring together photographs connected with:

  • village people and families;
  • particular streets, buildings and locations;
  • schools, clubs and village organisations;
  • events and celebrations;
  • shops, businesses and working life;
  • transport, farming and the surrounding countryside;
  • other subjects represented in the collection.

A focused choice will usually produce a more coherent slideshow. A broader choice may reveal a larger and more varied selection.

The number of matching photographs depends on the descriptions and keywords currently held in the photograph record. As research continues and more information is added, the available selections will also improve.

How My Slideshow Works

  1. Sign in and open My Slideshow.
  2. Choose the available subjects or keywords that interest you.
  3. Review the number of photographs matching your choice.
  4. Open the slideshow and enjoy the selected photographs.
  5. Return and make a different selection whenever you wish to explore another subject.
Why might a photograph not appear?

My Slideshow depends on the information recorded against each photograph. A photograph may not appear under an expected subject if a name, place, date or keyword has not yet been identified or added to the record.

This is one reason why contributions from residents and families are so valuable. Even a name, approximate date, location or short memory can make an important photograph easier to discover.

Where Can I Watch a Slideshow?

My Slideshow can be enjoyed on many everyday devices, including:

  • desktop and laptop computers;
  • tablets;
  • mobile phones;
  • compatible television and larger-screen arrangements.

The exact appearance will vary according to the device and screen size being used. A larger screen can be particularly enjoyable when sharing photographs with family members or discussing village memories together.

Great Brickhill Yesterday and My Slideshow

Great Brickhill Yesterday is a prepared public Showcase. It presents a small selection chosen to introduce visitors to the photograph collection and the stories it can contain.

My Slideshow is different. It allows registered members to create a viewing selection based on the available subjects and keywords that interest them.

Public Showcase

  • open to public visitors;
  • a prepared photographic selection;
  • an introduction to the wider collection;
  • a simple way to begin exploring.

My Slideshow

  • available to registered members;
  • based on a member’s chosen interests;
  • uses the available photograph subjects and keywords;
  • can be revisited with a different selection.

Looking for Something Particular?

A photograph can lead to a person, family, place, event or object elsewhere in the Heritage Project.

Your Story — Your Toolbox will help you choose the most useful route into the wider collection.

Help Us Improve the Photograph Record

The photograph collection continues to improve through the contributions of residents, members and families connected with Great Brickhill.

You can help by contributing:

  • names of people shown in photographs;
  • dates or approximate periods;
  • locations, buildings and street names;
  • details of village events and organisations;
  • family memories and local stories;
  • corrections to existing descriptions;
  • additional photographs for consideration.

Every additional detail makes the collection easier to search, understand and share.
