The attached pictures show two burial jars and a small drinking vessel which I dug up one Saturday digging a footing to move the front door. When I realised there was pottery I called ….somebody, I think it was Bucks CC archaeological department. I had been digging with a pick-axe. After a couple of hours two guys arrived and continued the dig with brushes and a spatula!

To the best of my knowledge this is the earliest find of human occupation in Great Brickhill. Although it fits in the bracket of “Roman” it is likely that the pots and cremations preceded any Roman influence.
As an ex-construction man I am always on the lookout for antiquities when digging holes. It is our heritage that we are uncovering. I find it hard to believe that my “find”, some of which was only inches away from the footings of number 8 Holts Green, should be the only ones found on site.
We understand that these artefacts are lodged with one of the Buckinghamshire Museums.
